In the 12 months to June 2015, more than 1,150 construction approvals were issued, resulting in a staggering 4,718 building construction inspections.
The residential construction sector is particularly buoyant, with the value of applications received increasing from $112 million in 2013-14 to $143 million in 2014-15, an increase of 22 per cent.
Interest in the property sector has also been re-affirmed by recent figures released by online real estate portal domain.com.au that ranks Port Macquarie at number five in NSW's most highly sought suburbs and towns.
We were the only area to feature outside metropolitan Sydney.
Council's development and environment director Matt Rogers said that the value of development applications received across all sectors had almost doubled since the 2012-13 period.
"The high level of development activity illustrates the current confidence in our region as a great place to live, work, invest and do business," Mr Rogers said.
"The construction industry plays an important role in the local economy and has a number of significant flow-on benefits including increased spending within local businesses and a growth in services available to the community".
During this period of increased development activity, council has maintained approval times ahead of state averages and continues to focus on minimising costs to business and the community in managing development.
Delivering long-term strategic plans to support and facilitate ongoing land releases and growth in the region will ensure that the Port Macquarie-Hastings remains one of the most desirable regions in NSW and Australia.
