When my predecessor, the great Paul Speed Jones retired from the desk at the Wauchope Gazette he made several assurances, most notably that he would not make comment on the running of this wonderful newspaper.

He kept his promise and gave himself 12 months to ponder and I suppose watch my progress.
But when Speed did put pen to paper - or more accurately fingers to keyboard - he provided some wonderful feedback for me personally but also gave this newspaper a ringing endorsement.
And so, I find myself coming up to a year out of newspaper life and feel somewhat compelled to offer up a few humble notes that may or may not interest someone ... or anyone for that matter.
In Nicole Langdon, Michelle McCudden and Mark Gallagher we have three of best and hardest working employees who have ever been associated with this wonderful newspaper.
Loyal and proud of their association with the Gazette, this trio provide expert and complete coverage of all matters pertaining to our area.
Throughout its history the Gazette has been the staple read for locals covering - back in the day - everything from a list of just who was in the Wauchope District Memorial Hospital and who was back home recuperating right through to the latest cattle prices. Of course there was also the occasional major event that brought out the best in everyone concerned with the paper at the time.
So it didn't matter and still doesn't matter whom you talk to at the Gazette, everyone involved in the paper got the job done. And so it goes with the trio mentioned above.
There are few people who truly understand and appreciate the effort required to bring you the news - be it through the weekly pages or via your computer or handheld device on a 24/7 cycle.
And while this community has placed some pressure on many, if not all its editors and journalists and staff, over the years, it is now time that this community provided that same level of support back the other way.
There are many changes currently unfolding in the depths of newspaper-land.
Some would shake the very soul of the great newspaper people formerly associated with the Gazette; the old Chief for one, I suspect.
I would urge all the Gazette's loyal readers and, in fact, everyone with a love for Wauchope and this beautiful hinterland to dig in and show some support.
I'll now meander back to my current job and give an assurance that I won't meddle in the Gazette workings for another 12 months. It is in excellent hands.
Peter Daniels, (former editor, Wauchope Gazette), Football Mid North Coast General Manager.
