And, lunch boxes and school bags are not the only things that are full at this time of the year.
It seems Wauchope Public School's trend of bumper kindergarten intakes continues.
In addition to the 100-plus new kindy kids enrolled this year, principal Cameron Osborne said the popular school had welcomed 27 new students to years one to six classes, boosting the school's overall numbers over 700.
To cater for the increased growth, the school installed a new demountable last Friday.
"Staff are really excited to have all of the children back from holidays and we're looking forward to a first term full of exciting activities," he said.
"It's definitely pleasing to see the increase in our numbers, which I think is a positive reflection on the school's reputation.
"We welcome our new families and are looking forward to working together with all families to help develop students' education and social skills.
"As always, it's a team effort."
For the newbies, there will be five kindergarten classes with approximately 20 students in each.
Mr Osborne said he is hoping to form 32 classes in total across all years, including the special education classes.
As far as the first day nerves go, the seasoned professional suggested lots of tissues for mum, but assured that "the children are in very good hands and it's important you try to keep it together in front of them".
The pitter patter of squeaky clean black shoes is another major milestone for many families across the region, as their 'babies' venture out into the big world.
While some are definitely ready for school, teachers are bracing for a few teething problems when parents say their goodbyes.
Regardless, it will be a day of mixed emotions for proud parents across the Hastings.
