Dooley Roods played with Beechwood in the early 60's, winning a premiership with them in '63.
The game was played in cold windy conditions however the threatened rain did not eventuate. Jamie Donovan playing in the number two jersey for Beechwood was first to score in the twenty third minute, followed by Blake Carter five minutes later, and Michael Bright four minutes after that.
It looked like Long Flat would go to the half time break without scoring until Mathew Mumford crossed over at thirty eight minutes making the score twelve to four at half time.
David Knox for Beechwood dominated the scoring in the second half with tries at fourty six, seventy six and seventy nine minutes and was helped out by Chris Donovan at the sixty first minute mark. With the wind in his favour Amos Saunders converted two of these tries to make up the thirty two points for Beechwood at full time. For Long Flat, James Keaton and Robert Downey scored at fifty six and sixty eight minutes and Mathew Mumford converting both which gave them the total of sixteen points for the day.
Best for Beechwood was David Knox who also received player's player and two referee points. Michael Bright attracted the three referee points and one for Beechwood while J McKinnon for Long Flat received the one referee point and Blake Carter the two Beechwood points. Daniel Jones was best in defence and Michael Bright stood out in attack.
Next Saturday, Beechwood is at home to the Boardriders contesting the Kath Townsend Memorial shield. We are celebrating our Ladies in League day and hoping to see plenty of pink at the ground.
