Service general manager Richard Jones said people from Wauchope and Taree had complained about an identified person who was seeking donations.
There were also some concerns about other areas of the Mid-North Coast.
“These are generous people who have contributed to local fund raising events and knowing that the service does not door-knock they wondered why they are being approached in this way,” Mr Jones said.
“We understand that the persons involved are not wearing identification but the message conveyed is sufficiently generalised to lead some people to think he is collecting for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
“Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service does not believe in or practice door-knock fund raising,” he said.
No one has ever paid to be assisted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
That is because people in our community, with support from NSW Health and the Ambulance Service of NSW, provide the funds that ensure the rescue helicopters are there when and where they are needed.
Since December 1975 the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has undertaken more than 30,000 missions helping to save thousands of lives.
