APPRECIATING CHANGES TO THE GAZETTE
I have noticed some changes in the Gazette which I, for one, appreciate. The print is much clearer, as well as the photographs. One can even read the TV programmes clearly and quickly.

Originally, I had supposed that the mastheads move to the left was a sign of change us oldies may not have tolerated. However, I have now found myself reading the Town & Country section, definitely a change in this old city slicker’s habit.
Glad to see a crossword puzzle and other word games as well, but what happened to the rainfall information? I found this info useful in comparing my predictions of volume from the skies each month.

GOOD SAMARITANS IN WAUCHOPE
On Thursday June 16 my Aunty fell and broke her ankle outside the Star hotel at the Chinese restaurant. My Aunty would like to thank the ladies who helped and called an ambulance, and attended to her, and to the other lady who went up to her home and informed my uncle, and picked him up and brought him down to the restaurant.

A SKI SLOPE IN SNOWLESS LENNOX HEAD?
Since 1936, in all Winter Olympics sports, we have only won a total of 12 medals. However, somehow another minority group are to receive $10 million to build a ski jump practice facility at Lennox Head. One has to ask: are we really that flush with cash?
If money is no problem,I really don't care who wins the election, as it would be hard to argue we are cash-strapped, and need to exercise financial restraint and tighten the belt. LOL .
For a land mass that experiences sun, sand and surf for 99.9 per cent of the time, I ask, a SKI JUMP on the north coast of NSW, when our southern ski season only lasts a matter of a few weeks, if we’re lucky? Brains in statues spring to mind, to describe this folly with our taxes.

HOLLISDALE HALL COLOURS
I would like to thank the community members who attended the Pappinbarra Progress Association special meeting on Wednesday June 15 about the Hollisdale hall colours. A robust conversation was had by all.
The conclusion I came to was that we live in a wonderful part of the world, and the hall, with the help of all our passionate members, will be around for a very long time, to serve the needs of our diverse and wonderful community.

MAYOR, COME AND SEE THE RUBBISH
I would like to invite our PMHC Mayor, General Manager to accompany me on a drive. There would be no need to travel far. It would only take an hour to point out the disgusting accumulation of rubbish strewn on the verges and beyond of our main thoroughfares, which most commuters travel on daily, and which present thousands of visitors with their first impressions of Port and surrounding communities.
To save precious time, we need not look beyond the section of the Oxley Highway from the Donut to the Lake Rd roundabout. Have we become oblivious to this dumpsite? It is cringe-worthy. Surely council can do more. Two persons donned in high-vis apparel, a ute fitted with hazard warning lights, a trusty pointy stick and collection bag would demonstrate that council really does care. I look forward to a response.
