The NSW Budget has allocated $2 million to help reduce quad bike accidents on farms.
Quad bikes are very useful, but they can also be dangerous, especially to novice users and in steeper terrain.
The Quad Bike Safety Improvement Program, due to commence in late July, will include a $2 million dollar rebate package to support farmers for a range of harm prevention strategies.
The package aims to balance the regulatory burden on farmers while improving safety; there are almost 200,000 quad bikes across Australia with one-quarter of them in NSW.
The NSW government will be offering rebates of up to $500 towards the purchase of compliant helmets; operator protective devices; the purchase of a safer vehicle (such as a side-by-side vehicle), and for rural farmers to undertake tailored training courses.
Licence renewal now click and easy
NSW citizens can now renew their driver licence at the click of a button, with the launch of online licence renewals through the Service NSW web and mobile sites.
Renewing your licence in person is already quick and easy – now hundreds of thousands of people will also have the option of renewing their licences when and where it suits them.
Previously, all NSW driver licences had to be renewed in person. Under the new service, eligible customers will be able to renew their licence online for up to five years using their existing photo. Simply log on to Services NSW at www.service.nsw.gov.au via your computer, smart phone or tablet. The new licence will arrive by post within 10 business days. Customers must print an interim licence until it arrives.
An eligible driver renewing his or her licence online may only need to visit a Service NSW centre once every 10 years to update their photo or to sit an eye test.
To ensure security and safety on our roads, online renewal will not be available for some licences, for example if a medical assessment is required or if the licence is restricted.
Fees will remain the same whether customers renew online or at a Service NSW centre. For more information call 13 77 88.
