I live in a community where people will trespass on private property in order to remove a 'Vote Greens' sign. I guess I should be pleased it lasted nearly two weeks…

FIG TREES IN HASTINGS STREET ARE BEING NEGLECTED
The fig trees in Hastings Street were saved from being removed, and the council moved two motions to maintain them, and have a proper strategy put in place for the care and better management.
A request last year to council outlining the health of the trees receieved no response to me. I’ve again written to the council this month asking for an independent arborist to look at the health. The trees from Young to Bain are poorly. The lack of proper care shows.
The gardens from Young to High Street were planted with colourful cordylines and xanadu plants. Most of them have died due to lack of care, costing ratepayers’ money. These need attention.
These trees were planted and paid for by locals back in 1938. \Where is council’s respect for the families in Wallace Street?
The date palms are heritage as well, and families paid five shillings each. They also are not shown the respect from Council. The museum has all the history that people should be aware of with regard to the town’s heritage.

OUR SELFISHNESS OR OUR WILDLIFE?
If we ask anyone, are they interested in our wildlife and the environment, the answer is always yes and they want them to be protected and our native species to be saved.
The unfortunate truth is that most Australians only want to look after our wildlife, as long as it doesn’t interfere with what they want to do. They certainly don’t want anything interfering with them making money, or costing them money.
Many types of feral animals are creating havoc with our native fauna, but not many people know or even worse, if they do know, they are not interested. Thank God a small number of dedicated people are working hard to try to save some of our species from extinction.
Of all our feral imports, the cat is by far the worst. it is the most efficient hunter and killer of Australia’s native wildlife. It is able to hunt day and night, up trees, on the ground or even underground in other animals’ burrows. It can hunt on any surface, any part of Australia, rainforest or desert.
There is no part of our country where our smaller wildlife - birds, reptiles or mammals – are safe from cats. They are also a carrier of toxoplasmosis. This disease causes some pregnant women to miscarry.
I like cats. They are lovely animals and make great pets, but they don’t belong in the wild in this country. It is imperative that there is dedication to the control or eradication of all ferals creating havoc.
Obviously money is required, but not only money. We all must want to keep our wonderful wildlife for our children and future generations. Unfortunately, I feel this may be just a dream. Why? Because we don’t care and are just too greedy and too selfish.

THANK YOU, KIND STRANGER
I’d like to say thank you to the guy that took time out of his morning (Thursday June 23) to do everything he could to get someone to jump-start my car.
Once again, your help was very much appreciated. We need more people like that around.
