Recently seen in High Street, a seemingly brand-new red disability scooter parked horizontally in front of seats reserved for human beings! How disappointing to see presumably elderly folk taking the place of young teens who used to lean their cycles against the seats.

Did the rider not realise that the footpath availability was reduced to almost 50% because of your parking arrangement? Why not park horizontally to the shopfronts (not entrances) and allow the seats to be used by passersby? This rider will give other scooter riders a bad name. A little thought would be useful.
A person who places advertising etc in letter-boxes says a toot on scooter’s tooter as riders are approaching, to warn of their impending presence, would save some bruises, and scattered paper on the footpath!

THIS CAN’T BE FAIR DINKUM
One doesn't have to ask why it takes so long for governments to do anything constructive in NSW when one reads the Port News, July 6, Upgrade Concept For Busy Road .
I ask you, 20 years to go from concept plan to design and maybe day one of construction. Yes, ratepayers and NSW taxpayers, 20 years to do 960 meters of the old Oxley highway, and at a cost of $17 million.
In 20 years, that's likely to be $45 million, by the time we get the first shovel of soil turned, then the real cost blowout begins . . In 20 years from now, those who are currently effected by the traffic snarls will no longer be eligible to drive a vehicle or will be residing a little further down the Oxley Highway at Innes Gardens.
Wake up, Australia, and get people into power who can get on with the job. Isn't that the election mantra at every election: more job creation? So get on with it.

REJUVENATION OF FOOTPATHS
I guess Wauchope residents won’t be surprised to hear that next year, our CBD footpaths will be “rejuvenated” by cleaning.
Regardless of Council’s description of how footpaths should be, as stated when they were laying exposed aggregate concrete in Port CBD, and I quote: “Footpaths are an important part of revitalizing the CBD, and transform the amenity of the street, while providing a safe surface for pedestrians. Footpaths over time become dirty and pose a safety risk, as the surface becomes uneven.”
Apparently, council is going to perform a miracle, and revitalize our aged footpaths to the above standard with water!

GIVE A GREYHOUND A HOME
The news that greyhound racing will be banned in NSW and the ACT is most welcome. This industry is responsible for the unnecessary slaughtering of tens of thousands of healthy dogs.
Now that the industry has been given notice to close down, the fate of thousands more is uncertain. The government must ensure that the greyhound racing industry stops all breeding programs immediately. Any money earmarked for building or renovating tracks should be reallocated to promote desexing and dog-adoption programmes.
Greyhounds are gentle, friendly dogs who love nothing better than human company, a kind word and a loving touch. If you are thinking of taking a new companion into your home, a greyhound, or any shelter dog, will offer loyalty and affection. Please don’t buy a dog from a breeder and sentence one of these beautiful animals to an early death; adopt a companion and offer him or her, and yourself, many years of joy and love.
