Our party has increased its numbers since the last election, having not only retained all of our existing seats, but also picked another lower house seat in Victoria and possibly another Senate seat in Western Australia.
The Coalition has also been returned with a majority and with the change in ratio between Liberals and Nationals this will be reflected in the ministry.
More Nationals will no doubt be at the Cabinet table, delivering a stronger voice for regional Australia in government.
Naitonals Leader Barnaby Joyce and our Deputy Leader Fiona Nash were re-elected unopposed at our first meeting.
Nationals Senate Leader, Nigel Scullion, was also re-elected.
Both Barnaby and Fiona will hold discussions with the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, and the Liberal Deputy Leader Julie Bishop over the coming days.
They will finalise the Coalition Agreement and decide on a new ministry that will be sworn in possibly next week.
From there, the government will begin the task of putting forward the policy agenda we took to the election.
I am very much looking forward to seeing the implementation of our jobs and investment package for the region along with our commitments to a number of important infrastructure projects here in our region.
Our government will be endeavouring to work with all members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to deliver good government to the people of Australia.
There will be much good will following on from the election and I am sure we will be able to secure support to deliver good policies for our region and the nation.
Wauchope remains very much in the electorate of Lyne, and work already begun will continue. The community will let the party know what most concerns them in the months ahead.
