Supported under Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s ‘Event Sponsorship Program’, six very different events are about to come alive across our region, offering the opportunity for the community to get involved whether it be as a participant, spectator or volunteer.
“There really is something for everyone,” said the council acting director of Community Place Lucilla Marshall.
“Council’s commitment to helping grow local events will see more than 5,000 locals and visitors participate in and attend events in the coming weeks. These events are a mix of established events such as King of the Mountain and 3 Rivers Rowing Festival, and those in their first or second year, like the Beach to Brother Marathon and Ekam Yoga Festival.”
Events supported by the council’s event sponsorship program over the next six weeks include:
- King of the Mountain – Sunday 21 August – Experience the much loved run/walk up the iconic North Brother Mountain
- Northern Division Road Cycling Championships - Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August – An exciting new event at the Port Macquarie Cycling Club
- 3 Rivers 3 Distances Rowing Festival – Sunday 28 August – Showcasing our scenic Hastings River and open to all non-motorised water craft
- Ekam Yoga Festival Port Macquarie – Sunday 18 September – Find you inner self with yoga classes, talks, music, and a Healthy Lifestyle Expo
- Port Macquarie Beer & Cider Festival – Sunday 24 September – A family friendly event with games, music, great food and a range of brewers
- Beach to Brother Marathon – Sunday 25 September – A new trail running event over multiple distances from Town Beach to North Brother

The council recently developed an ‘Event Organisers Toolkit’ which offers practical advice and assistance in understanding the events approval process, planning and budgeting. There is also the opportunity to book a one-on-one meeting with council staff to talk through your event idea or plan.
“If you’ve got a great idea for an event which attracts, or has the potential to attract a significant number of visitors to our region the council would love to hear from you,” added Ms Marshall.
Applications for sponsorship under the council’s event sponsorship program (for events being held in the first half of 2017) close on Wednesday August 31.
