Competing in the singles section, Col had to battle against three state and commonwealth champions, and that was just to move into the finals.
“I played James Reynolds and eventually went down 21-15 before my next game against another state player in Ryan Woods,” Parkes said.
“While I lost that game 21-16, I was really pleased with this result, in particular.
“So after the completion of the sectional play, the competition progressed with the top two in each section.”
Parkes also competed with Jeff Roberts in the doubles where the conditions on the first few days include rain, cold and winds. While they enjoyed some success, the pairing did not advance to the quarter final stage.
The event was held at Milton-Ulladulla Bowling Club. In 2017, the event will be staged at Bateau Bay.
The bowler said the wheelchair sports NSW titles also proved to be a good opportunity to mix with other players, from across the state.
“The highlight of the week was staying with another competitor Brett Stanford who hails from Young,” Parkes said.
“Along with hosting a radio program in Young, Brett has overcome considerable disadvantages after being bashed and left for dead in Sydney.
“The week spent with Brett and Jeff opened my eyes up to people with disabilities.
“Wheelchair sports is like one big family enjoying each other’s company in a way that helps break down all boundaries.”
Colin Parkes wants to thank Critch Engineering, Marks Gyprock Plastering, Bruce Delander, Tony Mondy, Jody, Joanna, Lisa and Caleb from the Wauchope Country Club and Sam Mumford with the support in attending the competition.
