Hastings Valley carers are encouraged to apply for a position on the NSW Carers Advisory Council.
Carers are pillars of a strong community, supporting people affected by a disability, chronic illness, mental ill-health, dementia or frail age. The council advances the interests of carers and gives advice to the NSW government regarding the 857,000 unpaid carers across the state.
Four council vacancies are now open, giving people from the Hastings with relevant experience the chance to advocate for, and speak on behalf of, other carers.
The NSW government launched the NSW Carers Strategy 2014-2019 to better support and recognise carers. Priorities include increased employment and education, improved health and wellbeing, raised awareness in the community, and improved ways carers can be involved in the design and delivery of services.
For more information and how to apply, go to www.facs.nsw.gov.au/reforms/carers/nsw_carers_advisory_council or contact the council’s secretariat on 8753 9380. Applications close October 7.
Our veterans’ legacy
Applications are open for the Community War Memorials Fund (CWMF) and the Anzac Community Grants Program (ACGP).

The ACGP, which promotes a greater understanding and recognition of the Anzac legacy, has grants up to $2000 for schools, historical societies and community organisations for educational programs and commemorative events. Applications close February 24, 2017.
