This means that NSW is leading the nation on economic and fiscal management, and our triple-A credit rating is re-affirmed.
General government net debt fell from $5.5 billion at June 30, 2015 to minus $57 million at June 30, 2016 – meaning NSW was in a cash positive position for the first time on record.
Fiscal discipline and asset recycling has allowed us to invest record amounts on infrastructure. This program is supporting employment, housing construction, consumer confidence and business investment.
HOUSING RECORD
The number of new homes in NSW given the green light has reached a record high, according to the latest ABS data.
Figures show 73,606 new dwellings were approved in the year to August. Aapprovals in NSW are up by 37 per cent through the year, the fastest growth rate of any state. The best way to put downward pressure on prices is to increase supply – and record approvals mean a major boost of new homes is on the way.
RAILWAY HERITAGE
The Heritage Council of NSW is seeking input to assist its consideration of the heritage status of the Wauchope Railway Station Group.
The group includes the railway station and platform, former station master’s residence, former gatekeeper’s cottage, Goods Shed, railway bridge over the Hastings River, railway yard and a series of contemporary business premises.
The review was triggered by an application from Railcorp to amend site boundaries. The matter is being considered under Section 38 of the Heritage Act 1977, on the basis the group may not meet the threshold of state heritage significance.
Should the Heritage Council decide to remove the group from the State Heritage Register, it will continue to have statutory heritage protection as a local heritage item.
