The club fielded six teams in total and had a travelling party of 60 competitors and supporters.
The Bonny’s crew were successful in winning the gold medal in the over 35 years mixed long course team event.
This result proved to be the club’s maiden victory at the Coolangatta Gold, improving on a silver medal won last year.
This year’s winning team of Trent Seale (ski leg 24.5 Km), Raquel Seale (beach run legs of 2.5 and 7.1 km), Adam Lacey (ocean swim 3.5 km) and Chris Sands (board 6.3 km) completed their winning relay in four hours 46 minutes and 25 seconds.
The Wauchope Bonny Hills over 35 years women’s short course team of Elaine Walker (ski), Louise Stewart (run), Carolyn Turnham (swim) and Jan Proudfoot (board) put in an outstanding performance claiming the silver medal in an enthralling race in which the lead changed several times.
“Our team was pipped by North Bondi by less than a minute at the finish after taking the at times during the swim and board legs,” said president Peter Smith.
The club’s third medal of the weekend went to the over 35 year’s mixed short course team.
