Thursday January 26 is a chance for all Australians to come together to celebrate their country and culture, and reflect on what it means to live here.
Actor and singer Peter Cousens is the Australia Day ambassador and he’ll join Mayor Peter Besseling at events across the region.
Celebrations in Wauchope start at the Showground at 8.30am. An Aussie breakfast is available, and there will be children’s games, a jumping castle, face painting, games for the bigger kids, a BBQ food stall, guessing competitions and a Sing Australia singalong.
Local artists will provide the entertainment and morning tea will be available.
At 11am, MC Neville Parsons will introduce the Australia Day ceremony, there’ll be a Welcome to country, raising of the flags by Wauchope Scouts, the opening prayer, and addresses by Mayor Peter Besseling, State member for Oxley Melinda Pavey, Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie and the Wauchope High School Captains.
The Australian National Anthem will be sung, and the cutting of the Australia Day cake will take place.
The entertainment will continue, lunch will be available and competition winners announced.
