The Show Society received a grant under the NSW government’s Community Building Partnership program, in which community organisations can apply for assistance to maintain, repair or build local infrastructure.

The society will use the grant to resurface the entrance to the main gate on High Street and replace and widen the roadway to the Beechwood Road gate.

“Not only will this improve the showground’s environs, accessibility and overall amenity, it will also be welcomed by the increasing numbers of caravaners and grey nomads who use the site as a base for their stays in Wauchope and their excursions around the lovely Hastings Valley.

A significant contributing factor in the awarding of the grant was the Port Macquarie - Mid North Coast Branch of the Ulysses Club hosting the club’s 34th AGM event in May.

The event runs from Monday, May 22 until Sunday, May 28, and the organisers expect about 3000 attendees, which will mean about 2000 motorcycles manoeuvring around the town.

That’s a lot of motorcycle enthusiasts and, as the Wauchope Showground is the main event site for all the entertainment, exhibitors and most of the camping, the need for the resurfacing works is clear.

Also, as part of the event, the Wauchope RSL is hosting the Ulysses Club’s Extended National Committee meeting on Friday 26th.  This is typically attended by representatives from each of the 134 branches as well as the National Committee.

Clearly, this is going to be a major and exciting event for both the Ulysses Club and the Greater Hastings Valley Region, and I’m pleased to be able to help with a relatively small but important project to ensure the facilities are optimal and the event runs well,” the Oxley MP said.
