She would like to see everyone wearing red and putting a red ribbon on their letterbox next Sunday, February 19, to show their respect.
“I see it as a way to give thanks to our firefighters, police, ambulance, the water bombing crews and everyone else who was out there putting their lives at risk to help others,” she said.
“It would be great to show them that the community supports them. They are there every day, whether they are fighting fires or not, I think they deserve their own day locally.”
Sharon and her family are new to the community but have already been embraced.
“We moved up in July and we love it. It is very friendly and we have been made welcome,” she said.
“It’s a big reason why we wanted to show our support to everyone because that is what a community is about.
“You can’t imagine what they would be feeling out there fighting the fires.
“I would have loved to do a street parade for them in Wauchope or Beechwood and make a day just for them, but it’s proving a bit hard to organise.”
