So she signed up for the World’s Greatest Shave and is well on the way to meeting her $5000 fundraising target.

The Douglass Hanley Moir Pathology blood collector has noticed an increase in blood cancer over the past few years.

“That’s made me even more determined to do this,” Mrs Porter said.

Donations and a raffle have helped push her fundraising tally to date to about $2500.

The sale of hair wraps will add to the total.

“I’ve done rock and roll and swing dancing for a lot of years and I’ve done my hair into the ‘40s and ‘50s styles,” Mrs Porter said.

“That is all going to go until it [my hair] grows back.”

A family bush dance at Wauchope Showground from 6pm on March 4 will raise money for the cause.

Russell Churcher will be the bush dance caller and entertainer.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children aged over five.

The big shave will take place during the event.
