Last Friday and today (Monday), children in the Hastings, High Street and Riverbreeze centres met invited members of the Rural Fires Services and the Forestry Corporation.
“They shared some valuable and respected information about fire safety and awareness, the roles in which our fire fighters and support crew play and practices we can all put in place to prevent/minimize the risk of fires in our environments,” said centre manager Laura Mowle.
“From here, the children then had the opportunity to share their own personal experiences relating to the fires, encouraging their peers to show great empathy and sympathy skills to one another, promoting children’s sense of belonging, connectedness and wellbeing,” she added.
The children presented Sandra and Zeb from Forestry Corporation and Bruce and John from the Rural Fire Services with beautiful handmade thank you cards and gifts, expressing their knowledge and awareness towards the fires.
Educators supported the children to extend their thoughts and acknowledgement to the members of the SES and all the other many volunteers who stood tall and proud to help protect our homes.
“You are true heroes in our community and for that, we thank you. It is so rewarding for early childhood educators to support and guide the children to develop greater gratitude and awareness towards everyday events/causes as this is a fantastic and valuable life skill,” said Laura.
“You all did an amazing job. From your TG's friends and the wider community, we say a huge thank you,” she added.
