THE local community are invited to grab a coffee with a cop this week, as officers from the Mid North Coast Local Area Command aim to put minds at ease.

In Port Macquarie, Kempsey and Nambucca Heads, police and members of the public will come together to discuss community issues, build relationships, and, of course, drink coffee. Everyone is invited to attend.
Superintendent Paul Fehon said police hope the community members will feel comfortable enough to ask questions or raise concerns they may have. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships,” he said.
The idea originated in the United States where police sat down with members of the public to discuss relevant matters.
It has since expanded to Australia and now to our local area. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members.
Senior Constable Steve Cherry said it was a chance for people to relax in a one on one basis with police.
“It’s going to give people an opportunity to sit down and talk about any subject they like,” he said.
“If someone has a problem or an issue, or even a query about what police do and why police do some things then we can put their mind at ease.”
The event begins at 10am at the Port City Bowling Club in Port Macquarie, the Kempsey Macleay RSL, and the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.
