The Commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service, Shane Fitzsimmons warned of Catastrophic fire weather conditions for Sunday February 12, the worst fire behaviour conditions that our area has ever recorded.
As a response to this, the volunteers of the NSW RFS were actively patrolling the community and crews standing by at brigade stations, ready to respond to new fires. Once the fires were reported in the district, the brigade went to work.
Behind the scenes, many people were providing invaluable support by volunteering their time and energy to supporting the fire fighting effort and their neighbours, showing true community spirit.
In particular Beechwood Brigade would like to say thank you to Beechwood Cafe & Bar for the donation of sandwiches and drinks to the volunteers and to Beechwood Public School P & C for cakes, fruit and drinks for the volunteers. The generosity was greatly appreciated.
“This unprecedented fire event has bought out the best in our local community,” said a spokesperson from Beechwood Brigade.
“On behalf of Beechwood Rural Fire Brigade, the NSW Rural Fire Service would like to thank our locals for your ongoing support and community spirit. Bush Fires are a shared responsibility between the fire fighters and the community.”
