And Junior Co-ordinator Colin Pursehouse says they are just warming up, in the lead-up to their community event Come and Try Gala Day on Sunday April 2 from 9am to 12.30pm.
“We normally have our registration day in Wauchope at the RSL Club who is our major sponsor,” said Colin.
“But with our club becoming more involved in the community with the development of our “One time, one place, no travel” program in Wauchope, we decided to make it a day for the community to come down and get to know us.”
They want people to see what the sport is about, and register anyone who wants to play with them this season.
There will be jumping castles, face painting, a BBQ, and a mobile coffee cart supplied by Curly’s Cafe.
There will also be lots of hockey skills demonstrations, coaching and ‘come and try’ skill workshops.
A lot of parents help out in the club, and we call ourselves the family-friendly club.

“We are donating the funds raising from our BBQ towards the Pappinbarra Relief Fund,” added Colin.
“And we hope that the Wauchope community comes down and joins in and supports the growth of our sport in the community – as well as this great cause”
New players under the age of 11 get to pick a stick and also get a mouthguard and shin pads, all as part of their registration.
Glen Pursehouse from Wauchope Hockey Club says the Come and Try Days at Landrigan Park in the town have been a great success.
“They’ve been going very well, parents have been getting involved, and we’re very happy with the responses we’ve been getting,” he said.
In Wauchope, they cater for all ages from four to 11. It’s a very evenly mixed group, popular with boys and girls.
Glen says it teaches them team skills, hand-eye co-ordination and interpersonal skills.
“They have great fun, from the looks on their faces,” he added.
“Hockey has always been there, and we’ve always had strong national teams, but it’s taking some doing to bring it back to the younger ones.
Glen’s played for 14 years and enjoyed it every step of the way. A lot of parents help out, and they call themselves the family-friendly club.
