Hosted by the Breakers Juniors, teams from under-6s to under-9s will converge, 49 of them in fact, to play a serious of games that will be about fun and footy, rather than results.
Ray Weatherby of the Port City Breakers juniors hopes the wet weather will stay away.
“The rain has affected the region a lot. These little kids just want to play footy,” he said.
“We will have about 550 kids from Port, Wauchope, Camden Haven, Wingham, Forster and other areas coming to play.
“It’s the biggest gala day we’ve held yet, and it shows how strong rugby league is in the area. From under-6s to under-9s we’ve had a huge influx of players come in for the upcoming season.”
The plan is for teams play four to five games from 9am to 2pm, with plenty of carnival-like activities for the kids.
“It’s not about competition or winning, it’s just about getting the kids out to have some fun before the season kicks off on April 8,” Weatherby said.
“There will be rides for the kids, some mascots like the St George Dragon and the Hogs Breath for the kids, so it will be a carnival atmosphere for them.”
