The national store’s latest addition to its New South Wales presence has generated months of excitement and anticipation among shoppers across the Hastings.
The Marina shopping precinct will also feature over coming weeks a strip of specialty shops.
Kjell Knable and Isaac Boulton were keen to be a part of Port Macquarie’s shopping history and camped out at the store from 1am to ensure their place at the front of the line when the doors opened.
"We camped out because we thought it was exciting. And I want to help the community by boosting the economy and I think Kmart will provide that,” Kjell said.
"I was amazed at the value. I couldn't believe you could get a stove and blow up mattress for the same price,” Isaac added.
Ten Port News readers were also offered VIP access to the store for a pre-opening shop with community activities and entertainment for day one shoppers throughout Thursday.
Store manager Michael Lawrence and his 200-plus team of employees were well prepared for what has been a hectic day behind the registers.
