Eight local women are taking on the Oxfam Trailwalker 100km challenge at the end of August and they need your support to make it there.

Oxfam is an independent, non-government organisation working in more than 28 countries and Indigenous Australia.

Their projects include supporting orphans and people affected by HIV in Southern Africa, educating people in Laos on efficient farming techniques, and improving Indigenous health and wellbeing in regional Australia.

The Sydney Oxfam Trailwalker event raises vital funds for Oxfam Australia.

It begins at Brooklyn on the August 25 and passes through some of Sydney’s most challenging and stunning trails, finishing at Tania Park, Manly.

Teams of four have 48 hours to walk or run the 100km trail, although our two local teams are aiming to complete the event in around 24 to 28 hours, walking through the night with little or no sleep.

The two teams from the Hastings called ‘We Thought You Said Rum’ and ‘We Thought You Said Rum 2‘, are hoping to raise over $5,000 to help some of the world’s poorest people.

“We are excited by the challenge and have been training together to make sure we are ready to take on the trail,” said Ann Eggert.

The major fundraiser for their teams will be a fundraising dinner at the Wauchope RSL Club on May 13.

Tickets for the dinner are $40 per head, or get some friends together for a table of eight.

The ticket includes a two-course meal and entertainment by local band Smooth Moves headed by Trent Waicokacola.

The RSVP is the April 28, so be quick to book your spot.

At the dinner, there will be a fundraising auction and balloons with some great prizes on offer.

A number of local businesses have already come on board with a range of sponsorship cash and prizes.

You can follow the teams’ journey on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/235013226960649/ or to donate go to https://trailwalker.oxfam.org.au/my/find/team/4981 and search for the team name.

Tickets for the dinner are available at the bottle shop at the RSL Club.  For any enquiries or offers of sponsorship please ring Michelle Mullot on 0409 861361 or Leanne Parker on 0417 400897.
