Cara 1, who was exhibited and bred by the Malcolm Wood and Jo Pope, Ashwood Devons, Bulahdelah, went on to win Supreme Devon Exhibit that year.
The Judge at the time noted that the heifer calf was “every bit as good as, if not better than”, her dam.
So at the 2017 Sydney Royal that 2015 calf, Ashwood Cara 10, herself with a beautiful heifer calf at foot, proved that judge right and emulated her wonderful mother by taking out Senior Champion and Grand Champion Devon female exhibit.
This year’s Judge, Greg Wright, said of Ashwood Cara 10 that she was very correct, feminine, and doing a great job with her calf which was proof on the ground that she was replicating herself. He went on to say that the true measure of a cow is her ability to reproduce.
The Ashwood Cara line, which started with Ashwood Cara 1 out of Bongalabi Cara and sired by Barnstaple Lexington 16, has produced stunning offspring.
This year she has produced a great bull calf and Ashwood has great confidence that this line will continue its great form and live up to the words of those judges.
