Tribute artist Eddie Daniels who portrays Roy Orbison has been hailed as a master showman and the king of cabaret.
Orbison had one of the most distinctive, powerful voices in pop music. Elvis Presley called him the greatest singer in the world.
He used his vibrato voice and operatic style to amazing effect on Only The Lonely, and Top 10 hits like Crying, It’s Over and Pretty Woman.
Although the first half of the 1960s saw the rise of Orbison's star, the second half of the decade brought harder times.
Tragedy struck when Orbison's wife, Claudette, was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1966, and again when his two oldest sons died in a house fire in 1968. A devastated Orbison stopped recording.
By the late 80’s Orbison had an amazing comeback with the Travelling Wilburys, and a TV special with Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and kd lang.
Sadly he passed away from a massive heart attack before he witnessed the full success of his last album.
Suzie Lee is portraying the goddess of pop, Cher, who’s recognised for her distinctive contralto voice.
Cher became prominent in 1965 as one-half of the folk rock husband–wife duo Sonny and Cher with their hit “I got you Babe”.
The Sonny and Cher comedy hour was an immensely popular TV series in the 70’s and Cher became a fashion trendsetter with her daring outfits.
She established herself as a solo artist with successful singles such as Bang Bang , Gypsys Tramps and Thieves, Half Breed and Dark Lady.
In the 1980s, Cher pursued an acting career on Broadway and in movies like Silkwood, Mask and Moonstruck, where she won an Oscar.
She established herself as a rock singer, releasing platinum albums such as Heart of Stone (1989) and top-ten singles such as "I found Someone and ”If I could Turn Back Time". She reached a new commercial peak in 1998 with the song Believe.
Cher returned to film in the 2010 musical Burlesque and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Suzie Lee says it’s great fun portraying Cher on stage.
“I can’t imagine someone singing Cher’s material without the deep vocal tones that she has – It just wouldn’t sound right,” she says.
Suzie was selected as one of the Top 6 Australian Tribute acts to be featured on The Big E TV program in the UK along with Bjorn Again and the Beatnix and was voted Europe’s most popular Cher tribute act.
Orbison and Cher together in one big night is at Wauchope RSL on Saturday May 6. Tickets are available from the Bottle Shop.
