The containers will be used for storage at the properties of Tom and Millie Cowan, Helen Riek and Denis and Annette Hill while they rebuild their homes.
Denis Hill said he’s very grateful.
“It means we will be able to start putting stuff in there,” he said.
The money was raised by donations to Wauchope Rotary through the Holiday Coast Credit Union, the Lions Club, Footprints in Ag and the generosity of the local community. The total is $25,000 and it’s increasing.
Ash Hancock from All Time Towing is delivering the containers to the properties free of charge.
“It’s hard times for these people. We thought we would donate our time and services to help the community,” he said.
North Coast Containers provided the containers at a great price.
Pappinbarra Progress Association president Lisa McLeod said it was a great feeling to be able to pull things together for people affected by the fire, and use donated money.
It’s really uplifting to see something we’ve worked towards.

“We have been working really hard and it hasn’t been easy. It’s really uplifting to see something we’ve worked towards,” she said.
Heather Smith from Rebuild Pappinbarra said the end result is something really useful for people.
“They wanted something to store their things in securely on their property, as well as things people have given them.
“This hasn’t given them a house right now, but it’s something they can work towards. On a long-term basis, containers are very useful,” she said.
Robyn Flanagan from Wauchope Rotary said it’s what those affected by the fire wanted, not what other people thought they wanted.
“As a Rotarian, we support so many things world-wide. People always give, regardless of the cause. It’s good to fund a local project. This is a small start,” she said.
You can donate by going into any Holiday Coast credit union or going to Rebuild Pappinbarra on Facebook.
