Bodyboarding: Charlie Holt wins Port Macquarie Bodyboarding Association competition

PORT Macquarie’s Charlie Holt showed everyone else how it was done when he won the men’s pro division bodyboarding title on Sunday.

Holt took advantage of the clean, four-foot nor-easterly swell at Lighthouse Beach to emerge victorious over Brodey Brockman.

Competition media officer Luke Filipek said under heavy skies, the competition was nearly cancelled.

“We were in two minds whether we should have gone ahead with it because the conditions were so bad,” he said.

“Luckily it paid off because the waves were barrelling and great, it’s just the weather wasn’t.”

Filipek said Holt had always been in the top echelon of bodyboarders in Port Macquarie and was always tough to beat.

“Charlie has always looked like being the person to beat at most of our events,” he said.

“He’s completing more manoeuvres and while he’s not doing anything out of the ordinary, he’s more consistent."

Finn Black took out the AAA Division and Matt Norris came up with a nine-point ride.

“It was judged as the best of the day and was a really good barrel.”

Filipek said they were pleased with the amount of competitors who turned up although he would like to see more.

“We had a good turnout of probably 25 to 30 people and we’re still trying to get more numbers because we haven’t had much luck unfortunately,” he said.

“We’re just looking after our current members and make the competition as strong as it can be with what we have.”

The drop knee division was won by Jones Russell.
