Last Thursday the World Peace Run stopped in the Hastings, at our beautiful Gaol Point lookout, with the weather and ocean simply glorious. All up a winning shot.

The Peace Run has been on the go for 30 years, volunteers continuously carrying its 12 torches all around the world, asking for no money, but reminding us that peace depends on all of us carrying that torch.
Somebody later remarked that with terrorism exploding all around us, the Peace Run was obviously a failure.
I guess in a way the critic is right, because personally I try to keep my ear to the ground but hadn’t really known about them. So they’re quiet - which isn’t a winning strategy.
But really, who cares?
You either see the value of peace or you don’t. There’s no contest regarding what’s best, so you’re with the Peace Run already, whether they ever came here or not, and whether you stood or ran with them or not.
So who cares if we never hear about them?
I do, now, because it was a real buzz actually having them here; to hold their travelling torch with them and share a moment conversing that peace is worth standing up for, and we shouldn’t forget that.
Undoubtedly, a pox on those who incite people to commit violent act - which isn’t natural, except when protecting what is near and dear, and terrorists aren’t protecting anything.
Their behaviour isn’t what ours is, and we can’t sit back doing nothing in the face of their attacks.
Surely it’s up to each of us to actually do something; take the struggle to violence at every opportunity; rejecting things like family violence, exploitation of children and the weak, and the fear-mongering of grubby politicians. They all count.
Finally, it’s up to each of us to lead in whatever life we chose, is my view. Then we can’t and will not fail.
Our families should be safe and our elected members should stand up for us, and we must require that.
