Originally from Port Macquarie, Sascha Chapman is returning home to talk about her involvement with the Seabin Project. With World Ocean Day on June 8, her presentation on solutions to plastic pollution is timely.
Sascha worked in administration at Hastings Co-op’s corporate centre for four years before setting off around the world. Now her passion has a purpose, campaigning for clean oceans and launching the Seabin Project (a bin which catches floating debris from marinas) on a global scale.
Thanks to sponsorship from Hastings Co-op, two current employees Kaitlin Largent and Chloe Potts will hear from Sascha and 16 high profile presenters at the Glasshouse on July 19 -21.
Hastings Co-op’s chief executive officer Allan Gordon said the Luminosity philosophy is one we support wholeheartedly, helping young people think big and build enterprising futures.
“The flow-on benefits for employees we have sponsored in the past – both as employees and individuals – have been enormous,” Mr Gordon said.
“As well as showing our support for the youth summit and the area’s youth in general, we see this as a great way to reward and help nurture our future leaders. It’s an investment that will benefit our employees, customers and the community for years to come.”
Sixteen-year-old Kaitlin Largent, who works at Port Macquarie IGA, said Luminosity will provide a good chance to help my schooling because it inspires courage, collaboration between peers and shows how creativity can benefit young people.
“It will also allow me to create positive work relationships,” she added.
Chloe Potts, who is an 18-year-old supervisor at Wauchope IGA, said she always hoped to attend Luminosity and thinks it will help her become the best version of myself that I can be, help build my courage and learn to push past the thought of failure.
This year’s Luminosity line-up includes L-Fresh Hip Hop Artist, musician Matt Purcell, Sam Webb Australian Survivor finalist, Amna Karra-Hassan Founder of the Auburn Tigers AFL team and Dr Misty Jenkins cancer and immunology researcher.
