But Patti made a good fist of acknowledging her lack of public speaking ability while helping unveil a centenarian plaque in George’s honour in Bain Park on Thursday.
“He’d be really proud to be acknowledged with this plaque in Bain Park,” Patti said.
“No doubt he would be really flattered and quite surprised.
“He didn’t think he would ever reach 100 years of age. But I always knew he would just cruise on through.”
Deputy mayor Lisa Intemann attended the unveiling and said the Bain family had made significant contributions across many areas for the betterment of the community.
“I don’t think history will ever forget the contributions the Bain family has made to this community and to this region,” the deputy mayor said.
“I think it is great that we now have two plaques side by side, one for George and the other for his aunt (Kath Bain).”
George Bain passed away in November 2016 but not before celebrating his 100th birthday on June 10.
The plaque acknowledges George as a centenarian, a lifetime resident of Wauchope and the grandson of Duncan Bain who donated the land for Bain Park.
