The Disability Inclusion Action Plan provides Port Macquarie-Hastings Council with an achievable plan on how to improve the accessibility of council services, facilities and activities and create a more inclusive and accessible community.
Cr Peter Alley acknowledged the feedback received.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Access Sub-committee chair said he would raise some of the issues mentioned in the feedback with the access sub-committee.
The sub-committee advises the council about accessibility, inclusiveness, advocates about what is most important and helps communication between the council and the community.
The council worked with the access sub-committee and key staff, and conducted community consultation in developing the Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
A report to the June council meeting said the council was recognised as a regional leader in rolling out this project in the Mid-North Coast.
It is monitoring and assisting Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Nambucca and Kempsey councils in the development of their plans.
The Disability Inclusion Action Plan is a whole-of-council planning tool to achieve the council’s goals to support inclusion of people with disability in the community.
The council adopted the plan with the inclusion of some changes.
The plan will replace the council’s Disability Discrimination Act Action Plan.
