Chris Hardwick, acting inspector at Port Macquarie Police Station said two men were descending the cliff to fish when the accident occured.

“Emergency services were contacted and an operation has been able to remove the man from the rock face,” he said.

“It was a very steep environment and he had fallen some 15 metres to the base of the cliff. We winched him with a vertical extraction rather than with the helicopter. The man is in a stable condition.”

He was in a precarious position below, and it took emergency workers more than three hours to stabilise and winch the man to safety in a three and a half hour operation.
