The Frugal Arts project’s The Frugal Forest is described as a combination of unique and intimate classic music with an installation of salvaged materials.
Among the creators are project designer Briony Anderson, sound designer Ray Howell and education officer Chay Khamsone.
Ms Khamsone said The Frugal Forest involves artists, musicians, scientists, schools and community groups from across the Mid-North Coast.
“To date over 1170 people have contributed, from making leaf litter to designing massive palm trees, creating soundscapes and videos or building websites,” she said.
“Our aim is to create an arresting and immersive forest installation, entirely from stuff that was headed for landfill.

“We also wanted to start a conversation with people about current issues and how we can move towards a circular economy where resources go around and around rather than being wasted.
“It’s about higher efficiencies.”
Ms Khamsone said The Frugal Forest also helps understand interconnectedness ‘so we can all play a part in making a better world’.
The response has been fabulous with all 28 shows booked out.
The display encourages visitors to venture through the fern-filled and leaf-littered forest paths of the Frugal Forest, an installation made entirely from salvaged materials, and listen to the stories the forest people have to share.
Deep in the forest stands a clearing where kids will find themselves immersed by a unique and intimate classical music experience.
Featuring iconic music from renowned composers, this incredible music experience will introduce kids to the instrument families and the ways in which music can be used to capture the sounds of an environment.
The Frugal Forest display continues at the Sydney Opera House until August 6 and is then on display at the Sea Acres Rainforest Centre from September 8 until February, 2018.
