In their second game the girls played against Casino High School and came out convincing winners 34-7.
Try scorers were Breanna Green 2, Caitlin Miller, Shikira Porter, Stella Tijou and Charlotte Wilton. Breanna Green and Lacey Hearfield kicked conversions.
The third game was against Wagga Wagga High School. The girls also won that game 34-7.
Try scorers were Charlotte Wilton 2, Holly Auld 2, Breanna Green and Maddi Williams tries. Holly Auld kicked 2 conversions.
“Our last game was against Westfields Sports High School. Win this one and the girls were through to the final,” said coach Matt Taylor.
“It wasn’t to be with Westfields giving the girls a good lesson in 7’s Rugby. The girls went down 0-30 but never stopped competing.
“The girls finished with two wins and two losses and finished 5th overall. A wonderful achievement,” he added.
Best for Wauchope were Charlotte Wilton, Maddi Williams, Shikira Porter, Kirstan Bird and Lacey Hearfield.
Season 2017 has seen the girls defeat St Clare’s Taree twice, St Joseph’s Regional, Macksville High School, John Paul College Coffs Harbour, Terrigal High School, Coonabarabran High School, Narrabeen Sports High School, St Pius College Adamstown, Gloucester High School, Casino High School and Wagga Wagga High School.
Their only defeats have been to Sports High Schools and only Sports High Schools finished ahead of the girls in Sydney.
“A huge thank you to Graham Sonter, Jimmy Holbeck and Adrian Palmer for assisting with the coaching of the team. Thanks also to Graham Towle who drove our bus and to Bruce Doherty for his support in providing the bus,” said Mr Taylor.
“Thanks to all our family members who have supported us and to The Wauchope Lions Club, The Mayor’s Sporting Fund, The WHS P&C and the WHS SRC for financially supporting the girls.
“The girls have proved to be excellent ambassadors for our town whilst away can lay claim to being the best non Sporting High School in the State. Well done girls,” he added.
