It is all in the name of greater community access to meetings and engagement in the council’s decision-making processes.
Items on the meeting agenda include a development application for an aged care facility and a short-term holiday letting in NSW options paper.
The state government is seeking feedback on ways to ensure economic benefits while managing the social and environmental impacts of short-term holiday letting.
The booming industry is worth billions of dollars across the country but can cause negative impacts if not managed properly.
A parliamentary inquiry examined the adequacy of the regulation of short-term holiday letting in NSW.
The state government accepted many of the inquiry’s recommendations.
The government’s response supported putting in place a regulatory framework.
A state government options paper identifies four potential approaches or themes for the management of short-term holiday letting.
A report will go before Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s next meeting with a recommendation for the council to make a submission to the options paper.
The council report said it was recommended that a submission advocate for the implementation of a range of options.
Those options include self-regulation, strata laws, planning regulation and registration, that combined would provide a practical framework for the management of short-term holiday letting, the report said.
Meanwhile, a development application for an aged care facility in Highfields Circuit will come before the council meeting for a second time.
Consideration of the development application was deferred at the September meeting, pending a site inspection.
The applicant, since the September council meeting, has submitted an amended basement parking plan with an additional eight spaces.
That brings the total proposed parking spaces to 31.
The applicant has also submitted amended gross floor area and floor space ratio calculations.
The Wednesday October 18 council meeting begins at 5.30pm at the Laurieton School of Arts Hall on the corner of Bold and Laurie Streets.
