Wauchope leader Belinda Schmitzer said the opportunity to give back to her community was one of the driving forces behind her joining Guides as a leader.
“I do not regret becoming a Guide leader for one minute, working and interacting with our girls keeps me young at heart, and I have made a lot of life long friends who share the same values and community spirit.
“But by far the most rewarding thing is watching our girls progress and learn new skills, often without realising how much they are learning,” Mrs Schmitzer said.
“Each of us has skills and talents that we can pass onto these girls, or can be put to good use behind the scenes, supporting our young women,” she said.
Mrs Schmitzer also said that part of being a Guide leader means that you can release your inner child and have a go at new and exciting things.
“Being apart of Guides means you can reconnect with the great outdoors, gain confidence and leadership skills and broader your horizons by visiting new places.”
On October 18, the Guides held a recruitment leaders evening, and Port Macquarie leader Barbara Sherrin said that they are always looking for new leaders.
“Our girls are great, and we are always on the hunt for more leaders to help out,” Mrs Sherrin said.
Across the Hastings there are over 80 Girl Guides between the ages of 5 -18.
One Guide who has gone through the program is Natalie Schmitzer, and she said the experience was unbelievable.
“Being in Guides has given me the opportunity to meet people all over the state, country and recently all over the world and was a huge confidence boost growing up,” Miss Schmitzer said.
Wauchope’s guides meet every Wednesday at the Rotary Hall beside Bain Park. Junior Guides, aged five to 10 years old, meet from 4.30pm to 6pm and Girl Guides, aged 10 to 14 years old, meet from 6pm to 8pm.
