The young people from Wauchope High School and their dates looked stunning as they arrived at the RSL Club for their graduation formal. The Year 12 students had been down to the Hastings River for photos before coming to the club for a meal and the cutting of a special cake.
Kitiara Porter said it was great to have a night to celebrate everything they have been through after the HSE exams.
“The boys just go and pick a suit, but some of the girls started getting ready earlier in the year. I went to two shops before I found the dress I wanted. You get your make-up and hair done and get all prettied up,” she said.
After the dinner and speeches, there is an after-party, usually at a student’s house, where friends can go and enjoy the rest of the evening. Sharon James was thrilled to have been invited along to the big night by her niece.
“Jess and I have been planning this since she was in Year 7 when we started looking at dresses. She bought me a bunch of flowers and she invited me to come. It’s wonderful. I love it. They all look so beautiful. Even the boys come up all right,” she smiled.
Zack Mason said the boys didn’t have to go to as much trouble to get ready as the girls.
“You don’t have to get your hair done. But there are too many photos being taken,” he said, although he liked the fact that everyone made an effort to look their best.
