Game 1 against Beechwood
Beechwood won the toss and chose to field. Nathan Lyon took full advantage of the Beechwood attack on a very fast ground, hitting 60 runs in quick time with nine 4’s and two 6’s.
Nathan was well supported by Quinn Pares hitting 16 runs with Matt Day (23) and Nigel McKenna (16) getting WRSLCC to what we believed was a sub par total of 154 runs.
Despite losing Scott Mallyon to an age inflicted injury (he’s 50, bowls well generally, but collapsed with a groin strain) off the first ball of WRSLCC bowling innings, through tight, sensible bowling we restricted Beechwood to 133 all out after 18 overs. Standout bowling was Nigel McKenna with 4 overs taking 4 wickets for 21 runs.
Game 2 against Pirates
Again WRSLCC lost the toss, with Pirates batting first to score a total of 5 for 134, which appeared very competitive. Standout bowling was Tony Brown with 2 for 30 off 4 overs, and Kade McKenna with 2 for 31 off his 4 overs.
Chasing the total, again Nathan Lyon had a wonderful innings scoring 81 runs with five 4’s and six 6’s. Nathan was ably supported by Nigel McKenna (14) and Lindsay Hopper (19) to take a comfortable victory in the 16th over.
Game 3 against Macquarie Hotel
True to form, Captain Tony Brown lost a third toss and Macca chose to bat. Off their full 20 overs Macca totalled 133 runs, with Jason Blythe (4 overs 2 wickets for 20 runs) and Tony Brown (4 overs 2 wickets for 20 runs) the pick of the bowlers.
This was the first game Darren Bourke has been able to resume his wicket keeping duties following a severe and painful illness, after returning to the Hastings cricket competition after 5 years playing Grade Cricket in Sydney for Western Suburbs.
Chasing the Macca total, Darren Bourke and Jason Blythe started very well, hitting the Macquarie attack to all parts of the park. Darren was finally dismissed in the 9th over on 71 runs (seven 4’s and five 6’s) with the score on 130, just 4 runs shy of victory.
Jason Blythe was dismissed the very next ball for 49 (seven 4’s and two 6’s), leaving Kade McKenna and Quinn Pares to steer the side home for a very comfortable victory.
Port City Magpies beat Camden Haven XI to get to the May Kelly Cup T20 semi-finals.
