Soldier On is a charity established to assist our physically and psychologically wounded soldiers on their return from war.
The guest speakers on the night were Keith Payne VC and Brent Kerehona.
Among the attendees were the Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams and husband Don, Greg Laird from the Port Macquarie RSL sub-branch, Des Hancock from the Wauchope RSL sub-branch and Ian Robertson from the Vietnam Veterans Peace Keepers and Peace Makers Association.
Co-founder of Soldier On, Cavin Wilson was also in attendance.
Rotary was well represented by Rotary District 9650 District Governor Brian Beesley and wife Heather together with Past District Governors Barry Hacker and wife Bronwyn and Laurie Barber and wife Glenda, together with Wauchope Rotary President Patti Berrigan and other Rotarians from Wauchope and the Port Macquarie and Laurieton Clubs.
The net proceeds from the evening will be allocated as agreed with 70% going to Soldier On and 30% to Australian Rotary Health for research into mental health and depression.
Coordinator for the function, Past President of Wauchope Rotary Reg Pierce, described the event as ground-breaking.
"In many ways this was a ground-breaking exercise, with many groups working together for the first time," Mr Pierce said.
"Due to the success of this event, I'm confident that the event will be staged again next year."
On the night the Port Panthers staff provided top class service and excellent meals. The guests were entertained by the local Black Magic Big Band who provided excellent music that encouraged plenty of dancing.
