Their billycart, complete with racing car steering, had its first run only days before the event.
Mr Oastler drew on his engineering background and created the sleek billycart design based on a 1937 Auto Union GP car.
“I wanted to build something a bit more charming, rather than competitive,” he said.
“It was a comfortable roll down the hill.”
Mr Massey said he pushed the billycart a lot.
“It’s a great day out, great fun, great people and a good atmosphere in a nice village,” he said.
The October 23 main race spanned five kilometres, while children negotiated a shorter course.
Wauchope youngsters Deacon Turner and Nash Martin have vowed to enter the event again after their inaugural outing this year.
The Wauchope boys trained downhill in preparation for the popular children’s race.
They agreed the race was great fun.
“It was pretty good,” Deacon said.
Nash said the race was heaps of fun.
Russell Evans and Mick Dagert raced their billycart, Uncut, in the main event.
Mr Dagert said the speed of the race was a rush.
Event organiser James Wallis said the day had a good atmosphere.
“Everyone got out and enjoyed the Beechwood community,” he said.
Proceeds go to the Beechwood Sporting Grounds.
