Fire swept through and ravaged her property, and five of her beloved horses were badly burned. Sadly, one passed away.
A Go Fund Me account has been started to aid Helen and her horses in their recovery.
The immediate veterinary services are being donated free of charge by local vets, however Helen will still need assistance over the coming weeks.
The ongoing care of these horses will involve fluid therapy, regular bandage changes, antibiotics and pain relief for several weeks at a significant expense that Helen is not in a position to afford.
The Wauchope community has rallied around her since Sunday, providing shelter and food for her horses, however the cost of veterinary material is expected to fluctuate rapidly.
“Helen is a friend of mine that I have known for a number of years.
“She has a great love for her horses and is devastated about the injuries that they have received,” said Marianne Tattam, who created the Go Fund Me page.
“The money raised by this campaign will go towards all the veterinary supplies that are required for daily medications, bandage changes and wound treatments along with the ongoing costs of caring for the sick animals during this time.”
“We have been supporting Helen and the horses as much as we can.
“There have been a massive amount of people offering support in many ways,” Wauchope Vets owner Michael Ferguson said.
“We are providing the care for free, but just the cost of materials to keep the animals alive and aid their recovery is substantial.
“To see the support has been unreal. We have had people offering hay, to come and help, to use their property and so on.
“It has been amazing to see the community rally around and provide care for these horses.”
At the time of print, almost $9,000 had been raised by members of the public.
