THE first official fundraiser for the Pappinbarra fire victims, in conjunction with Facebook group Pay it Forward, has raised plenty of cash and a trailer load of items.
A barbecue at the Bushfire Relief Appeal was held on Thursday (February 16) with Hastings Community Radio in Wauchope. More than $700 was raised, and many people brought clothing, bedding, toys and household items.
Money raised goes to fire appeal, while donations such as clothing will also go to victims of the fire.
Admin of the Pay it Forward site, Raelene Burtenshaw, was overwhelmed with the support of the community, which saw many people from all over attend the barbecue throughout the morning.
“Thank you everyone. We have had donations from the community with storage units, IGA and Anacaonda have been fantastic, and so has the radio station,” she said.
“We have other services coming on board to ask for help and we are really growing our Pay it Forward community. We also have more helpers now.
“We want to try and raise as much money as we can for those affected by the fires, as well as for the RFS.”
