And his confidence was proven correct as the Football Mid North Coast Premier League new boys finally got the monkey off the back with a 2-0 win over Camden Haven.
Logan Palmer and Kade Fens found the back of the net as Burn’s boys claimed their first win.
Burn hopes the club’s first Premier League win in almost 10 years will provide a launching pad into the season.
It is a far cry from the final three years of their last incarnation where they failed to pick up a single point.
“I’m proud to have done something for the club that hadn’t happened in a long time,” Burn said.
With the exception of the opening round 6-0 belting by Macleay Valley Rangers, Wauchope had shown glimpses of success in the opening rounds.
They led Port Saints 2-0 and then gifted Wallis Lake all three of their goals the week after so Burn was confident a drought-breaking win was around the corner.
We now feel like we’re worthy of our position in the competition.

“We now feel like we’re worthy of our position in the competition,” he said.
“In saying that, we’re nowhere near being at the MVR level just yet – there’s no point bullsh*tting about it.”
Burn, however, was disappointed at the way Wauchope finished the match where they sat back and defended their two-goal lead.
“We’re still making a few mistakes and we didn’t get out of our own half for the last six or eight minutes of the match,” he said.
“I think the boys were just happy to defend which I wasn’t happy about.”
He still believes they can make an impression.
“We’re still finals contenders – it’s just a matter of being consistent about what we do,” he said.
On a successful day for the club, reserve grade registered a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Redbacks.
