Preparations are well underway with decorations already up in several local businesses to give a warm Wauchope welcome.
On Tuesday evening, the event officially kicks off in the Big Top with a tribute to colonial days. It’s a casual affair where members have been invited to dress in the evening’s theme. So if you are in town and there are crowds of convicts and wenches, do not be alarmed, it’s just our friends from the Ulysses Club off to dance the night away to the sounds of the Lawrie Minson Honky Tonk Band.
The event has grown from a camp over, meeting and meal of the early days, to a major event spanning seven days, incorporating involvement by major motorcycle manufacturers and suppliers who provide trade displays and even test rides of the latest machinery.
There is a Grand Parade in Port Macquarie, several nights of entertainment, weeknight and Saturday night get-togethers, a church service and of course the official meetings and ceremonies.
Throughout the year, members raise the club banner at rallies and odysseys around the country as a focal point where they can join in good companionship.
Their "Old Man" logo, which has been preserved from its original hand drawn form is recognisable throughout the country and club members wear the logo with pride. Many members put effort into embodying the logo – “Grow Old Disgracefully”.
Chamber of Commerce president Tanya Simmons said she is looking forward to the event to get underway.
“The usual welcoming hospitality that Wauchope is known for is sure to impress and leave a lasting impression on the Ulysses members. “These ladies and gentlemen are here for a good time, so opening our doors longer if needed, accommodating their needs, dressing up your shops and getting involved in the festivities is what it's all about,” she said.
