Crime prevention officer for the Mid North Coast Local Area Command, Snr Cons Steve Cherry, said the thefts have occurred at night from the rear of utes and trucks at roadwork depots and in residential areas.
“Locks have been forced from tool boxes and cabinets when trademen’s vehicles have been either parked on the street or on driveways, predominantly in the Lake Cathie and Camden Haven areas,” Snr Cons Cherry said.
Pacific Highway upgrade worksite compounds have also been targeted around the Kundabung area where tools have been stolen from trailers and earthmoving equipment.
Police advise tradesmen to garage and lock their work whenever possible, or park in yards that have sensor lights and/or CCTV surveillance.
