Hastings Secondary College, Wauchope High School, Port Maquarie Astronomical Association, Mid North Coast Astronomy and Future Moves, Charles Sturt University hosted the event.
Educators and astronomy enthusiasts combined to present an entertaining and educational night.
A feature of the evening was the telling of Indigenous Sky Stories, a recognition of ancient aboriginal knowledge, said a spokesperson for the organisers.
“Sky Stories is an example of what science can do, utilising the knowledge and expertise of those who contribute to our community’s education,” the spokesperson said.
“Those attending on the night had access to the technology of today with telescopes and smartphones helping everyone make sense and understanding of our relationship to the sky.
“The night had many benefits including connecting community and education through to promoting hands-on learning and cultural inclusion.”
For many, the highlight was seeing Saturn and its rings while there were some amazing views of the moon along with Jupiter and its moons.
Hastings Secondary College student Oliver Barry said the talking telescope was ‘pretty cool’.
