The minor premiers take a commanding 4-2 lead into next weekend’s clash at John Street Oval, but Mid North Coast coach Mick Day remains defiant.
He believes his girls can perform the unlikely task of overcoming a two-goal deficit and progress to the grand final.
For 75 minutes of the first-leg semi-final in Taree on Saturday Mid North Coast competed with the ladder-leaders.
But 15 minutes of madness cost them when a 0-0 scoreline blew out to a three-goal deficit which they didn’t recover from.
“It’s a 90-minute game,” Day said.
“We played with 10 players for 10 or 15 minutes because they were on the sideline getting treatment for injuries.
“We didn’t want to use up one of our subs so early in the game and you just can’t do that against a team that has a couple of Jets players.”
For the remaining 75 minutes of the match Mid North Coast scored two goals of their own and conceded just one.
It gives them the slightest hope of overturning the deficit.
“I don’t think it’s impossible, but it’s definitely going to be tough,” Day said.
The coach admitted it was unlikely the side would have a training session outside the pool before next weekend’s return leg.
“We now have to win by three goals, but we have the plan to do it,” he said.
“It’s just whether we can get the girls recovered by the weekend; we’ll spend most of the week in the pool.”
